Former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has given his choice on who he thinks should be Canada's starter in the 2026 Olympics.
The Olympics are officially upon us, and it's the first time since 2014 that NHL athletes will be representing their nations in Olympic competition.
Canada will be looking to not only defend their gold medal wins from 2010 and 2014, but also their win in the highly successful 4 Nations Faceoff last February.
Former Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, who once represented Canada himself, was asked by former Penguins teammate Ryan Whitney on who he thinks should be Canada's starter.
Even though Fleury acknowledged that it might be good to give Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson a start, he thinks that it should be Jordan Binnington's net for the long haul.
I think to me, it's Binnington's net. He was so good at the World Cup, and he's won a lot of big games. But also if Thompson is the second guy, he should get a game because you never know, you want to get him experience. And then you'll see down the road. But I think Binnington should start, and plan on having him finish too. - Marc-Andre Fleury
Binnington, who won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019, backstopped Canada to a win in the 4 Nations Faceoff despite doubts about the state of their goaltending coming into the tournament.
The Olympics Have Begun And NHL Players Will Play
For the first time in over a decade, NHL players are returning to Olympic competition.
Sweden won the gold medal 20 years ago in the Olympics that were also played in Italy, and Canada took home the gold in 2010 (Vancouver) and 2014 (Sochi).
Who will be the last team standing this time around?
