Mark Giordano's career gets an unfortunate reality check
Mark Giordano is a defenseman who has accomplished a lot throughout his career. He has a Norris trophy and has consistently been lauded for his longevity.
The defenseman most recently played for teams like the Seattle Kraken and the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, there is no denying the fact that fans mostly know him for his time with the Calgary Flames. Having said that, Giordano has made it clear that he wants to continue playing the game of hockey. Unfortunately, not many teams are calling his line. In fact, there is currently no interest in Giordano.
As The Hockey News explained in a recent piece on Giordano, he is a player that could provide a ton of leadership to any team that needs it. While he may not be the player he once was, he is still someone who can bring a lot to the table for a young team.
For instance, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet listed a ton of teams that could potentially sign Giordano. The Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Carolina Hurricanes, and New York Rangers are all teams that could use him. However, the fact remains that no one is hitting Giordano's line right now. At 41 years old, it is easy to see why some teams would have a little bit of trepidation here.
Only time will tell whether or not Giordano is able to have some of his fortunes change soon. However, if he doesn't, then that will certainly prove to be disappointing for him. If not this season, then he may just need to call it a career, as it will be even harder to get work next year.
