Back on August 29th, Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau were killed in a terrible accident involving Sean Higgins, who was allegedly driving drunk.

Since the news of their passing, numerous NHL stars have come out with tributes to the two brothers. It has been incredible to see, although we wish it hadn't been necessary. Having said that, with training camp starting this week, numerous players are in front of the media for the first time since the incident. As a result, we are now getting raw and honest thoughts from players who knew the men best.
For instance, Gaudreau's former teammate in Calgary, Matthew Tkachuk, offered some heartbreaking words at his Florida Panthers press conference. As you will hear, Johnny meant a lot to Tkachuk.
"Out of all the great things that happened this summer, it's almost overshadowed by what has happened. These last couple weeks, it's been a terrible time. Really has. It's the saddest thing seen or heard, whatever. Being able to go to the service, it just breaks your heart. Johnny's one of my favourite teammates I've ever played with. He's such a great friend.

I'll have memories with him that will last forever. I just can't help but think of his parents, Meredith, and the kids. It was a very tough time that week and at that funeral. He'll always be with us . . . His memory will go on forever. My memory of him will go on forever."

Gaudreau and Tkachuk clearly had a love for one another. The deaths of Johnny and Matthew are completely unfathomable, and our heart goes out to their family during this difficult time. We can only imagine the tributes that every NHL team will do on opening night this season.
