The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed goalie Cayden Primeau on waivers today, just a short while after they had claimed him from the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed goaltender Cayden Primeau on waivers on Friday. Primeau, age 26, was acquired off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes prior to the start of the regular season.
The move comes a week after goalie
Joseph Woll returned to the organization after taking a leave of absence for some personal reasons.
Woll was placed on long-term injured reserve and subsequently assigned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies on Friday for a conditioning stint.
Cayden Primeau gave up the fewest goals in the AHL last season and won an award for it
Primeau won the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award, which is given for the AHL's fewest goals against, in 2025.
The 6-foot-3 Primeau appeared in net three times for the Maple Leafs, going 2-1-0 with an abysmal 4.30 goals-against average and a .838 save percentage.
Drafted 199th overall by the Montreal Canadiens, Primeau has a career 15-25-7 record with a 3.73 GAA and an .882 save percentage split between the Canadiens and Maple Leafs, numbers that aren't anything to rave about.
Toronto sits in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with an 8-5-1 record and has back-to-back games over the weekend, where they will face the Boston Bruins on Saturday and Primeau's former team, the Carolina Hurricanes, on Sunday.
