Steve Yzerman trades Jake Walman for the worst return in hockey
Tuesday has seen a lot of activity for Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, who just finished his second trade of the day.
The San Jose Sharks announced on social media that they have acquired defenseman Jake Walman from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations, along with a second-round choice in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
"TRADE 🚨
#SJSharks acquire defenseman Jake Walman and a second-round selection in the 2024 NHL Draft from the Red Wings." The Sharks said.
With two years left on his deal and a $3.4 million cap cost, Walman, 28, is not far from the end. The Red Wings' decision to move him today probably reflects their desire to make room for either next week's big free agency signing or the re-signing of a player like Patrick Kane or Shayne Gostisbehere.
The product of Toronto, Ontario, has 21 points (12 goals, 9 assists) in 63 games this season. He also had 44 penalty minutes and was minus-two.
