The Shocking Cost to Hire Rick Tocchet Revealed by Elliotte Friedman
Rick Tocchet is the most in demand Head Coach in the NHL, and now Elliotte Friedman has detailed the recruiting process to land the veteran coach and how much it will cost a team in the process.
Thus far in the off-season, we've seen both Joel Quenneville and Mike Sullivan both hired to new roles, but with vacancies remaining in Vancouver, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Boston, there's still plenty of hires to be made around the league.
Perhaps the most intriguing option for all of those teams (except Vancouver) is former Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet, who reportedly turned down a massive offer from Vancouver to remain in the role there long-term.
Now, it's been revealed just how much it will cost to acquire the Head Coach, with Elliotte Friedman reporting that he is interviewing teams as opposed to them interviewing him, with a certain standard for the organization to live up too if they are to hire Tocchet.
Friedman also reiterates that Tocchet turned down a historic deal from the Canucks to remain Head Coach, a number ($4 million) that Boston have never paid a Head Coach, so that money combined with the standard and expectations make him a very difficult hire for many teams with remaining vacancies.
Ultimately, Tocchet has connections to both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, two teams that recently fired incredibly well paid and well respected coaches in Sullivan and John Tortorella, showing that they will both pay up to land a Head Coach, and if they are to land Tocchet, they'll have to do so again as he is one of the last remaining big name coaches on the market at this point in time.
