Evgeni Malkin's future in Pittsburgh has been a major talking point in recent times, and now a top insider has revealed where he could be playing next.
The Pittsburgh Penguins successful modern era is coming to an end, and while
Sidney Crosby is still playing at a high level at age 37, it's clear that it's just a matter of time until we see him, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang finally move on.
It's Malkin's future that has been in the spotlight the most as of late, with the belief being that after 2025/26, the Russian superstar will walk away from the NHL, and now, insider Josh Yohe has revealed what other teams he may play for before that time officially comes.
In response to a question about Malkin's future and whether or not he will play in Russia and the KHL once he's done with the Penguins, this is what Yohe had to say:
«I suppose anything is possible. If Russia is granted permission to enter the Olympics next February in Milan, I'm sure he'd play there.
But I'm guessing Malkin will play one more NHL season, retire and spend the rest of his days living the good life in Miami. He's certainly earned it.»
While many have expected him to head home to Russia and play before his playing days are completely over, Yohe, who is well connected within the organization reveals that instead, it's likely he'll represent Russia at the Olympics and then walk away from hockey for good.
There's still plenty of time for things to change between now and the end of the 2025/26 campaign, but at this point in time, it appears as though the veteran's career is winding down, and even if he does play in Russia, his time in the NHL is likely done after next year.
