Tomas Tatar returns to one of his former teams in free agency
Unrestricted free agent forward Tomas Tatar will be returning to one of his former teams for the 2024-25 season.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the New Jersey Devils announced that signed Tomas Tatar to a one-year contract worth $1.8 million, bringing him back to the Garden State after leaving as a UFA in 2023.
"The New Jersey Devils have agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent forward Tomas Tatar on a one-year contract worth $1,800,000. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald." The Devils said.
Tatar, 33, spent the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons with the Devils where he had 78 points in 158 games. Last summer, Tatar didn't re-sign with the Devils and had to wait until just before training camp to find his new home, inking a one-year deal with Colorado.
The Ilava, Slovakia native split last season with Colorado and Seattle, the latter of who he was traded to in mid-December. In 70 games last season, Tatar put up 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists), ten penalty minutes and was a plus-eight.
It's been a busy week or so for Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald. He addressed their goaltending situation by trading for Jacob Markstrom and then in free agency yesterday, brought in a top-four defenceman - Brett Pesce, on a six-year deal. The Devils will be looking to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2023.
