Big trade set to happen involving the Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a promising start in the 2023-24 season, but it seems they're aware that they might need a significant trade to make a deep playoff run.
Rumors swirl about Samsonov's potential exit. Recent reports suggest that there's speculation of a potential blockbuster trade involving goaltender Ilya Samsonov going to the Arizona Coyotes.
Trade chatter reveals that the Arizona Coyotes are in talks to send defenseman Matt Dumba, goalie Connor Ingram, and a 2024 3rd-round pick to Toronto. In return, the Coyotes would receive T.J. Brodie, who would indeed have to waive his no-trade clause, goaltender Ilya Samsonov, prospect Nick Moldenhauer, and a coveted 1st round pick in 2024. At first glance, this trade proposal is intriguing. It would establish Joseph Woll as the full-time starter for the Leafs and add the physical presence of Matt Dumba to their blue line.
Given the Leafs' limited cap room, options are constrained leading up to the trade deadline this season. However, this trade could provide them with a dependable backup, reinforce their defense with a physical presence, and enhance their overall depth.
The key factor here would be Brodie waiving his no-trade clause. If he agrees, this deal has the potential to benefit the Leafs, even though it involves parting with a prospect and a coveted first-round draft pick.
