In a recent Boston Herald piece penned by Steve Conroy, the focal point is the looming question of a contract extension for Jake DeBrusk with the Boston Bruins.

Conroy delves into the potential outcomes if an agreement isn't sealed, suggesting that DeBrusk could transform into a coveted trade asset for the Bruins, bringing in top-tier talent.

Despite seeking a trade just two seasons ago, DeBrusk has impressively bounced back, showcasing his scoring prowess with 39 goals and 75 points in 111 games over the last two seasons.

However, DeBrusk's impending unrestricted free agent status adds a layer of complexity to the trade discussions. If an extension isn't hammered out before the March 8th trade deadline, Boston might encounter difficulties in finding a suitable trade partner unless they're open to acquiring additional assets through a separate deal.

Conroy underscores the urgency in securing DeBrusk's extension promptly, pointing to Owen Tippett's recent eight-year, $49.6MM deal with the Philadelphia Flyers as a potential benchmark. While Tippett may lack DeBrusk's track record, a contract in the $52MM-$55MM range over eight years is deemed reasonable for the talented forward if negotiations progress before the trade deadline.
