Dallas Stars Land Forward from Penguins Division Rival in Latest Trade
The Stars have made a trade with the Flyers, acquiring forward Samu Tuomaala from Philadelphia in exchange for defenseman Christian Kyrou.
The Philadelphia Flyers, division rivals of the Pittsburgh Penguins, today announced that the team has acquired defenseman Christian Kyrou from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Samu Tuomaala, according to their GM, Daniel Briere.
It is expected that Kyrou will report to the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, to continue the season.
Kyrou, age 22, was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round (50th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound defenseman has appeared in 97 career AHL games with the Texas Stars over three seasons (2023-25), scoring 12 goals and 38 points.
Christian Kyrou played a massive role on the power-play for the Texas Stars two seasons ago
During the 2023-24 season, he led all Texas defensemen in power-play goals with three and ranked second among d-men with 23 points (8g-15a).
So far this season, Kyrou has played in four games for Texas, registering eight shots on goal with no points.
As part of the deal, Tuomaala will join the Dallas Stars organization. He was drafted by Philadelphia in the second round (46th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
Over parts of four seasons with Lehigh Valley (2021-25) in the AHL, he scored 26 goals and added 49 assists, for a total of 75 points in 120 games.
The Flyers will play host to the Nashville Predators tonight at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m.
