Penguins' Rival Philadelphia Flyers Complete a Trade Involving a Forward
The Los Angeles Kings acquired one of the top deadline targets available in a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.
After numerous rumors suggesting that the Los Angeles Kings needed to add some offensive depth to their lineup, the team has finally made a move to address that issue.
In breaking news, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Philadelphia Flyers traded
Andrei Kuzmenko and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Kings in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft pick.
The Flyers had acquired Kuzmenko from the Calgary Flames in the
Jakob Pelletier trade earlier this season.
Kuzmenko, 29, scored five points in seven games with the Flyers this season and added 15 points in 37 games with the Flames before being traded.
The Russian forward is in the final season of his two-year, $5,500,000 AAV contract, and the Flyers are retaining 50% of his salary in the trade.
The Kings will look to win for the first time in what seems like an inevitable first-round clash against the Edmonton Oilers, after having lost to them three times in recent years.
A few days ago, Friedman mentioned on 32 Thoughts that the Kings were looking for a scorer, and they found one. In the same intervention, he talked about how the team could be interested in acquiring a number two goaltender, especially with a player like
Brandt Clarke likely on the trade block.
Here's what he stated at the time:
"They're definitely looking for a scorer. I get different debates on how big they're thinking here. I've had some people say to me, 'They're going to go bigger than you think.' I've had other people say, 'Yeah, I don't see it, but I think they're going to try and get the best scorer they can find.' I wonder if they upgrade in goal, not (Darcy) Kuemper, but maybe the backup position."
Both teams could announce more deals in the next few hours. Stay tuned for all the updates.
