Michael Russo says the Minnesota Wild are getting Bobby Brink, a 24-year-old 2019 second-round Flyers pick, for David Jiricek.

Brink is in Year 2 of 2 at a $1.5 million cap hit and is an arbitration-eligible RFA this summer. Jiricek is in Year 3 of 3 at $918,333 and is also an RFA.
That is the first punch here. Minnesota pays more for a winger who can help now, while Philadelphia buys a younger right-shot defense lottery ticket.
Brink has 13-13-26 in 55 games this season. He was playing real minutes in Philadelphia's middle six before this report dropped.
Jiricek is 22, the No. 6 pick in 2022 by Columbus, and Minnesota got him only last year for a heavy futures package. In 15 NHL games this season, he has 0-0-0.
That is why this feels bold. Bill Guerin is flipping a premium defense asset into an NHL winger with more immediate utility for a 36-16-10 club that is still pushing in the Central.

Bobby Brink gives the Minnesota Wild a direct winger fix

Wild fans will love the urgency, but there will also be real nerves if Jiricek finally clicks on another blue line.
Brink fits because he thinks the game fast, supports the puck, and can slide into a top-six or a useful third line. He gives Minnesota another man-advantage option without forcing a huge cap swing.
For the Flyers, the logic is different. Daniel Briere said this week he would not chase rentals, and Jiricek matches that longer build.
Philadelphia is 28-22-11 and still hanging around the race, but this move says upside over short-term comfort. A big righty on an affordable deal can matter fast if the staff trusts him.
Minnesota gets a playable winger for the next game, and Philadelphia bets that patience can still turn Jiricek into something much bigger by summer.
