Tristan Jarry trade talk is loud again, Pittsburgh Penguins fans feel vindicated, and the Edmonton Oilers look uneasy.
That X clip pushing the “Was Trading For Jarry A Mistake?” angle hit a nerve for a reason.
Edmonton chased a reset between the pipes, and Pittsburgh happily took the other goalie in the deal.
The trade package mattered too, Jarry and Samuel Poulin to the Oilers, Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second to the Penguins.
Kyle Dubas also unloaded Jarry’s $5.375M cap hit running through 2027-28, and that alone changed Pittsburgh’s options fast.
Skinner is 27, drafted in 2017, third round, by Edmonton, and he has looked calmer in Pittsburgh than he did back home.
His 2025-26 line sits at 19-12-5 with a 2.79 GAA and .890 save percentage, and the wins are doing real work in the Metro.
Jarry is 30, drafted in 2013, second round, by Pittsburgh, and the variance has followed him west.
Stuart Skinner gives the Pittsburgh Penguins belief
If you’ve watched this fanbase sweat every soft goal for two years, you can feel the collective exhale right now.
Jarry’s 15-7-2 record looks fine, but the 3.07 GAA and the recent blowups are exactly what Edmonton was trying to escape.
Meanwhile Pittsburgh is sitting 29-15-12, and “good enough” goaltending has been more than enough behind a tighter five-man game.
This is also a style fit, Skinner plays bigger in his crease, and the Penguins have let him see pucks instead of scrambling.
So yes, so far it sure looks like the Oilers overcorrected, and the Penguins won the swap on both performance and flexibility.
