Bowen Byram May Still Be On the Move After Contract Extension: 'Could Still End Up Trading Him'
Buffalo Sabres' Bowen Byram has been a major talking point this off-season, and even after his extension, Nick Kypreos has revealed that he could still be traded.
Throughout the off-season thus far, Bowen Byram's name has been at the top of all the speculation around the NHL, with many believing that the young defenseman would be traded at some point.
However, he and the team would eventually end up avoiding arbitration with a two-year extension carrying a salary cap hit of $6.25 million, keeping him in Buffalo until he hits unrestricted free agency.
Most people believed that this would be the end of the drama and the constant speculation this summer, but unfortunately for Byram, that may not end up being the case after all.
Recently, NHL Insider Nick Kypreos had more to say on the situation, noting that he wouldn't be surprised if the team decided to move Byram even after the extension, although he did state that would be the unlikely outcome.
"The Sabres could still end up trading him, but that's unlikely for the time being since a team won't pay a hefty price for Byram given he can walk to unrestricted free agency."
While Byram is a promising name for the future in Buffalo, it's clear that the team is looking to get better right now, and with two years of control for the young blue liner, they may be tempted to move him for a contending piece.
Ultimately, this one could go either way, as Byram doesn't appear to be someone that wants to remain in Buffalo long-term, but if the team can't find a deal to move him, he'll be on the ice helping this team attempt to break their Stanley Cup Playoffs drought in 2025/26.
