The Calgary Flames have been active in the trade market all season, and last night was no exception as they dealt defenseman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars. However, recent reports indicate that the team has no plans to part ways with one of their key players.

Despite speculation that goaltender Jacob Markstrom could be on the trading block, NHL insider David Pagnotta has revealed that the Flames intend to keep him for the remainder of the season. This decision comes as a surprise to many, considering Markstrom still has two years left on his contract after this season.
According to Pagnotta, "Further to this, the Devils tried to circle back but the #Flames are telling people they now plan on keeping Markstrom for the rest of this season."
Several other reporters have corroborated Pagnotta's report, suggesting that the 34-year-old goaltender is likely to remain in Calgary for the foreseeable future.
"Sounds like the #flames are going to hang onto Jacob Markstrom. They want to send the right message to the team."
Markstrom's performance this season has been solid, with a 2.54 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage. Despite the Flames' struggles, Markstrom has been a consistent presence in net. It remains to be seen if the team will stick to their decision regarding the netminder as the trade deadline approaches.
