The sports world mourned the loss of former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Adam Johnson in October, after a tragic incident on the ice during an Elite Ice Hockey League game. Johnson suffered fatal injuries when accidentally struck by a falling opponent, causing severe damage to his neck.

Since then, some NHL players have chosen to wear neck protection. Many are advocating for mandatory neck protection, similar to how helmets and eventually visors became mandatory for all players.
In a recent game at Chicago's United Center between the Blackhawks and the Winnipeg Jets, rookie forward Connor Bedard had a scary moment when his skates flew dangerously close to Jets forward Mark Scheifele's neck. Fortunately, it didn't end in tragedy.
Despite the close call, Bedard went on to score the game-winning goal in overtime, securing Chicago's 2-1 victory. However, the incident raised concerns about the potential for devastating injuries.
Looking ahead, will we witness increased calls for mandatory neck protection in the NHL, especially in the wake of past tragedies like the one in late October involving Adam Johnson?
