In a surprising twist, defenseman Cody Franson has officially called it a day on his professional hockey career at the age of 36. What adds an intriguing layer to his retirement is that Franson has immediately jumped into a coaching role, becoming an assistant coach for the Iowa Wild in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Franson's journey in the NHL spanned from 2009 to 2018, playing for notable teams like Nashville, Toronto, Buffalo, and Chicago. Over 550 games, he left his mark with 43 goals and 212 points.
Post his NHL stint, between 2017 and 2022, Franson continued contributing to the hockey scene by playing in Russia and the AHL. Now, with his playing days behind him, Franson is gearing up to share his extensive experience and knowledge with the coaching staff of the Iowa Wild.
