We've all had moments where we wish we could take back something we've said. For Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, this might just be one of those moments.

While it's only recently started making the rounds in online discussions, Makar, a true NHL superstar, gave an interview to the Denver Post about five days ago.

During the interview, he was asked about the ongoing investigation involving five players from Team Canada's 2018 World Junior Champions, a team he was part of. Despite not being implicated in any investigation, Makar's choice of words has left some people uneasy.

"It's tough. I've been told not to comment on that ongoing investigation. I've been straightforward from the start. I wasn't there," Makar said.

"It was a very fortunate bounce to not obviously be a part of something like that. I'm just going to leave it to the people who are handling the work right now. I can't stress enough that I wasn't part of that." - Cale Makar

Perhaps it was just his hockey instincts kicking in, but "fortunate bounce" may not have been the best phrase to use when discussing not being implicated in such an investigation.

One can hope that Makar didn't intend for his words to come across the way they did, and he does have his fair share of supporters online.

"Anyone mad at that Cale Makar quote flat out doesn't understand what sport this is and what hockey players are actually like."

Currently, Makar and all other members of Team Canada from the 2018 World Juniors are barred from participating in any Hockey Canada sanctioned events until further notice, including the 2026 Winter Olympics.
