Connor McDavid Linked to Penguins Divisional Rival as His Future in Edmonton Remains Uncertain

The future of the NHL could look completely different after this off-season, as the belief around the league is that this could be one of, if not the most chaotic summers in league history.

2026 could be just as wild, and with some of the biggest names in the NHL available in free agency, it's safe to say that teams this year could be holding back in the hopes of finding a top star next off-season.

One such player is Connor McDavid, and while the belief around Edmonton once was that he would never leave, after another disappointing end to their season in the Stanley Cup Finals, that could certainly be changing.

If he did make it to free agency, almost any team in the NHL would be interested, and according to reports, if it does get that far, the New York Rangers are one of the teams on his very short list of potential destinations.

According to Pierre LeBrun, the Blackhawks and Kings would also be interested, but given the market in New York which would give Connor anything he wants to lead them to a Stanley Cup, it's the most logical destination should he leave the Oilers.

There's still plenty to happen between now and when he would ever end up getting to free agency, but with so much needed to improve this team both in net and on the blue line, if the Oilers can't satisfy the desires of their captain, free agency could be looming, and it may mean one Metropolitan Division team gets infinitely better.
