Insider delivers luke-warm take on Connor McDavid's future in Edmonton

Leon Draisaitl just signed the richest deal in NHL history as the Edmonton Oilers gave him eight years at $14 million AAV.
The Oilers are already in a bit of salary cap trouble, but a player like Draisaitl is worth it. Along with Connor McDavid, he is a huge part of the team's core, and fans want these two to stay together for the long haul. They just made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, and there is a belief that they can win it all the next time they get there.
Of course, next summer, McDavid will be up for an extension, and he will probably be getting more than $14 million. In fact, some believe his contract will be worth $16 million. That makes things tough for the Oilers, but they have no choice. They need to bring McDavid back, no matter what.
Recently, Frank Seravalli revealed that McDavid is 100 percent going to sign with the Oilers next summer. The reasoning is simple: Draisaitl is back for eight more years. Is this a hot take? No. Not at all. It is more of a luke-warm take that every other analyst agrees with. Having said that, it will likely make Oilers fans feel more at ease.
