After the Montreal Canadiens beat the longtime Original 6 foe Boston Bruins in 7 games in the 2014 ECSF, there was an infamous moment that took place in the postgame handshake line between Milan Lucic and Dale Weise.
Inside the Canadiens' Stunning Upset Against the Bruins
The Canadiens were out for revenge against the Bruins, who last beat them 3 years prior in the playoffs in a 7 game series in the ECQF.
The Canadiens took series leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before the Bruins won the next 2 games, taking a 3-2 series lead. But the Canadiens came back and won the next pair of games, including Game 7 in Boston, moving to the ECF and eliminating the Bruins.
Weise Reveals What Really Happened in the Handshake Line
Weise recently appeared on the Slangin' The Bizkit Podcast, and he talked about the infamous incident in the handshake line with him and Lucic, describing how he felt he and the rest of his Canadiens teammates were in the heads of the Bruins.
I'm hitting them and I'm outscoring them, and then obviously you see the handshake line when things just melted down for him, it's probably a moment he wants back but he's not getting it back.
I see him getting really aggressive with everyone, and I think this could be the 1st fight in a playoff handshake line ever. He comes, and I'm ready to be like, 'Good series, man.' He grabs my hand, and is like, 'Next year, I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna get you next year, you're done!' And behind me is Alexei Emelin, who was in his head too, and he tells him the same thing. It's just like, what, is this 9 year old hockey? I could not believe the guy did it.
Lucic had his contract terminated by the Bruins in 2023-24, and is now signed to a PTO by the St. Louis Blues.
