Concerning News as Flyers Forward Matvei Michkov Involved in Car Accident
Multiple reports indicate that Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov was in a vehicle that was involved in an accident while on vacation in Dubai.
Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov was reportedly involved in a traffic accident while on vacation in Dubai.
Multiple reports on social media indicate that a car rented in Michkov's name was involved, but that he was not the driver.
Right now, there have been no reports released on whether Michkov or the driver of the vehicle were injured. This continues to be a developing story.
Matvei Michkov had a successful rookie year with the Flyers
Taken with the
7th pick by the Flyers in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Michkov made his debut this season and would lead all rookies with 26 goals and 46 even strength points. Despite his accomplishments, he wasn't named a finalist for the Calder Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's best rookie.
Still, his teammates hold him in high regard and recognize his potential. Flyers assistant captain
Travis Konecny recently said that Michkov wants to be the top player in the League and has a drive that can't be taught.
I think he's probably the one guy that I've played with in my career that he wants to be the best player in the NHL. He believes that he can be and you can't teach that. That's just something that he wants and he believes in - that's a powerful thing. If he can continue to figure out how to play on both sides of the puck and help us win games that way, too, he's a really big part of this.
Michkov and the Flyers will have a new head coach next season, as John Tortorella was dismissed by GM Daniel Briere with just a handful of games remaining; assistant Brad Shaw took over on an interim basis.
