Per a report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Philadelphia Flyers, the top divisional foe of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are looking to make an upgrade at the center position.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have quieted some of their critics with their impressive start to the year in a season in which most fans and analysts projected them to be out of the playoffs for a fourth straight year, which would continue the longest drought in the careers of Sidney Crosby, Evgeny Malkin and Kris Letang.
But another team in the division who have also been out of the playoffs for the last handful of years and who are only a point behind them in the standings are reportedly looking to make reinforcements.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman during his recent '32 Thoughts' podcast, the Philadelphia Flyers, the top divisional foe of the Penguins, are looking to make an upgrade at the center position.
It's not the biggest thing, but I did hear from a couple places that Philly's looking for another center. Maybe more of a depth guy as much as anything else, but definitely another center.

I'm formulating some thoughts on them. Might take another pod or two but I'm formulating some thoughts on them. I've been watching them a lot more lately. - Elliotte Friedman

The Flyers are only a point behind at 10-6-3 and have a game in hand on the Penguins, who are 10-6-4.

The Flyers Have Not Made The Playoffs Since 2020

The Flyers' playoff drought is slightly longer than the Penguins. Pittsburgh last made the playoffs in 2022, and the Flyers last made the playoffs in 2020.
Both teams have not met each other in the postseason since 2018 in which the Penguins were attempting for a 3-peat that would fall short when they were beaten in the ECSF by the Washington Capitals.
