Ryan Suter's NHL career isn't yet over, but to play on he needs the right scenario, something in which the Pittsburgh Penguins could possibly provide.
Ryan Suter's NHL career began way back in 2005, and since that point he has gone on to play in over 1,500 games at the top level, remaining productive even two decades later in 2024/25.
In that season with the Blues, Suter played in all 82 games, tallying 2 goals and 15 points with a +7 differential, and while he's not the difference maker he once was, it's safe to say that he's still a very effective veteran in the league.
Now, at 40-years of age, he's weighing up retirement or potentially playing on, but in a recent interview, he revealed that in the right scenario, he would continue his career, but it would need to be a good fit for both himself and his family.
That would likely mean a Stanley Cup Playoffs team that can offer him a consistent role in the lineup, and while the Penguins may not make a run, the chance to play with
Sidney Crosby could be a significant offer for Suter.
On top of that, the team are likely to move on from
Erik Karlsson and other veterans this summer, and with spots still remaining on the blue line as a result, there's a chance that the team could look to bring him in on a one-year deal.
It's unclear with a few weeks to go until free agency if the team would be interested in a veteran like Suter, but with the Penguins looking to get younger, the addition of a veteran in potential depth role to lead this young group forward may not be a bad idea, so keep a close eye on this one moving forward.
