Bryan Rust Speaks Out After Tough Showdown Against the Florida Panthers
The Pittsburgh Penguins fell in dramatic fashion on Sunday, but veteran Bryan Rust has shown confidence in the team with his latest comments after the game.
Although their chances to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs fall more and more every game, the Pittsburgh Penguins are still in with a chance, and after getting one point against the reigning Stanley Cup Champions on Sunday, their confidence has been given a big boost.
When asked about the performance after the game, veteran forward Bryan Rust was proud of the character and the leadership that was shown in this game, revealing that this team is out to prove something in 2024/25 even if their playoff hopes are all but over.
«I think shows a lot about the character and leadership in this room, is that we're in here to keep fighting hard, keep playing really hard. It doesn't really matter where we are, kind of what's going on, I think we're in here to still prove something and still be a good hockey team.»
With 10 games left of regular season play, the Penguins currently sit six points back of the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, five teams remaining between them and the Montreal Canadiens who currently hold that spot.
Still, the team are doing what a veteran squad should do and that's fight hard, and in the 4-3 shootout loss to Florida, Rust was fantastic with 2 goals and an assist as the team came up just short, remaining in touch with the playoff race in the process however.
Ultimately, this team may not make the post-season in 2024/25, but they've shown plenty of character down the stretch, and if they can make the right moves in the summer, there's absolutely no reason why they can't compete for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs next season.
