The Pittsburgh Penguins could look to add some veteran talent this summer, and perhaps buying low on Evander Kane could be a possibility for this team.
This past season was a tough one for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and while many have expected them to look towards the future, there's a chance that they may look to add some veteran talent this off-season to get back to contending in 2025/26.
They've already been linked to the likes of Rasmus Andersson in a trade and Mitch Marner in free agency, and now, an intriguing buy-low option on the trade market has been revealed.
That player is veteran forward Evander Kane, who has one year remaining on his current deal at a $5.125 million salary cap hit, and while he's a very controversial player, it's easy to see why he's so valued in Edmonton given the way he's performed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
However, the Oilers are in a salary cap crunch whether they win the Stanley Cup or not this season, and with the team likely looking to get younger, they would potentially take a very late round pick to move off Kane's salary, and if that happens, the Penguins could emerge as a genuine threat to land him.
If they did that, they'd likely also want to land a veteran in free agency to help this team make another push to the Stanley Cup Playoffs under Sidney Crosby, and if there's one player in the NHL that can keep a player like Kane away from controversy, it's No. 87, so while this may not be a popular move, don't be shocked to see Kyle Dubas potentially explore this one.
