There have bee rumours of a sale coming for the Penguins, and now speculation has grown over the rebuild and Kyle Dubas' role if that happens.
After years of success, the Penguins have struggled in recent times, and with a lack of future prospects and assets, Kyle Dubas has officially begun a rebuild that may lead them to a prosperous future.
Hoffmann Family, Lemieux, and Burkle Linked to Penguins' Future
The rival buyer of the Lemieux led group is the Hoffmann Family, a family that already owns the ECHL's Florida Everblades, and with their potential expansion into the NHL, they're looking to purchase the Penguins.
As of right now, it's not been confirmed how motivated the current owners Fenway Sports Group are to sell the team, but with two rival buyers, it's safe to say that the bids are going to get higher and higher.
Fenway Sports Group's Sale Could Alter the Rebuild Timeline
If a sale does happen however,
Josh Yohe of The Athletic has speculated that this could severely effect Kyle Dubas' rebuild, as a new owner may not want their new team to struggle for years before success.
"It's well known at this point that the Hoffmann Family is interested in purchasing the Penguins from Fenway Sports Group, and that Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle have at least considered doing the same. While the Penguins figure to be taken care of financially regardless of which group is in charge moving forward, you do have to wonder how, or if, this will impact the Penguins' rebuild. FSG lets Dubas do precisely what he wants and at the pace he prefers. He's playing the long game."
As of right now, Dubas has free reign to lead the Penguins into the future however he sees fit, but if a sale goes through, that could change quickly, so this is definitely a story to monitor given all of the speculation around the organization right now.
