New Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Muse, who was hired over the summer after Mike Sullivan was let go, has new focuses for the Penguins this year.

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue not only working toward getting their roster trimmed down before the start of the new year, but continuing preparations to try and get off to a good start despite most projections having them nowhere near a postseason spot.
Per Penguins analyst Hunter Hodies, the Penguins spent a majority of their skate on Sunday after yesterday's 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets working on their powerplay.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were back at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex for another day of training camp on Sunday, and there was a big emphasis on special teams.

Players from Groups A and B warmed up on separate rinks before scrimmaging for 45 minutes. Instead of the usual 5v5 scrimmage, each team rotated between having two-minute power plays.

The powerplay was one of the few good things of last season for the Penguins with a 25.8% efficiency, good for 6th overall out of all 32 NHL teams.

Dan Muse is the new coach of the Penguins

After terminating Mike Sullivan, the Penguins went in a new direction coaching wise and hired former New York Rangers assistant coach, while also hiring former Penguins' Stanley Cup-winning forward Nick Bonino as an assistant coach.
Muse won't have long before he goes against his former team, as the Penguins are scheduled to play their 1st regular season game against the Rangers on October 7.
Coincidentally, it will also be former Penguins coach Mike Sullivan's 1st crack at his old team, as he took the job of Rangers head coach after they fired Peter Laviolette over the summer.
