Elliotte Friedman Reveals the Penguins Player Getting the Most Trade Interest

Through a few weeks of the NHL off-season thus far, the Pittsburgh Penguins have done more buying than selling, but still, the expectation around the league remains that this team could be major sellers before the 2025/26 campaign begins.

All of that trade attention thus far has revolved around the veteran trio of Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell and Erik Karlsson, and while there's been interest thus far, nothing has reportedly come close.

Now, Elliotte Friedman has given us his latest update on the Penguins selling situation, unveiling which of the three key veterans is drawing the most interest thus far on the trade market.

Unsurprisingly, it's the one veteran that Pittsburgh are likely hesitant to sell on given all of the work he's done for this franchise over the years, with Friedman reporting that Rust is drawing immense interest on the open market.

Despite the team struggling overall in 2024/25, Rust was once again stellar, tallying 31 goals and 65 points in 71 games played, and while he plays next to Sidney Crosby which is a major help for production, he's remained consistent throughout his entire NHL career dating back to 2015/16, his first full year in the league.

Ultimately, Kyle Dubas and the Penguins have a tough decision to make on Rust's future, as he's not a player that would be moved lightly, but if they get an offer in the coming weeks and months that blows them away, it's safe to say that there's a good chance he could be traded.
