Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman and Swedish native Erik Karlsson discusses the experience of being able to play an NHL game in his homeland.

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson is still playing in a Penguins sweater despite being embroiled in multiple trade rumours during the summer.
Right now, he and the Penguins have silenced their critics by getting off to a much better start than most fans and analysts would have predicted.
Karlsson and the Penguins lost 2-1 in OT to the Nashville Predators as part of the NHL Global Series in Sweden, and before the game, Karlsson talked about the experience of being able to play an NHL game in his homeland at Avicii Arena.
«It's, obviously, very cool. I've been fortunate to play a few games in this arena and it's a special feeling. A lot of big games have been played here for Sweden and otherwise, so you know it's obviously a cool moment to have and to hear the Swedish national anthem as well is rare these days.

So, I enjoy every moment I get to do it. - Erik Karlsson
Even though the Penguins didn't get the result they wanted against the Predators, they'll have the chance to pick up a win in Sweden when they play the Kraken.

Erik Karlsson Has Played In Sweden While With The Senators

Playing against the Predators in a Penguins sweater is the second time in Karlsson's career that he's gotten to play in his native homeland while in the NHL.
Karlsson, who was previously captain of the Ottawa Senators, played against the Colorado Avalanche in 2017.
Karlsson is playing on his third NHL team, having also played with the San Jose Sharks where he won his most recent Norris Trophy as the League's best defenseman before his blockbuster trade to the Penguins in 2023.
