Erik Karlsson Trade Rumours Heating Up Ahead Of A Huge Off-Season In Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Penguins could go one of many ways this off-season, but for the most part, the belief around the league is that General Manager Kyle Dubas will look to the future and continue adding assets and young players, meaning that we could see some big names surprisingly moved.

There could be some surprises this off-season, but for months now, the expectation has been that Pittsburgh could pursue a trade of veteran defenseman Erik Karlsson, and with the off-season growing nearer, it appears as though that may still be the case.

With two-years remaining on his current contract, the Penguins may have to use one of their three retention slots to improve his value, but if they do that, he could be a very valuable trade chip for the team this summer.

In 2024/25, Karlsson was still a solid producer, tallying a very impressive 11 goals and 53 points in all 82 games played, but given that he plays a very similar role to Kris Letang in this system and the fact that Pittsburgh should be looking to get younger, it makes sense for them to gauge the market.

It's unclear exactly which teams would be in on Karlsson this summer, but with the direction of the Penguins and Karlsson wanting to contend for a Stanley Cup, a trade is the most likely outcome, and if Pittsburgh do indeed retain salary, he could be a very valuable addition for a contender.
