Evgeni Malkin Drops Surprising Comments on Ovechkin's Record-Breaking Chase
It's no secret that Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin are close, and now the Penguins star has made a hilarious comment on the record breaking star.
After 20 long years of chasing the record, Alex Ovechkin is now officially the greatest goal scorer in NHL history, with his latest snipe taking him to 895 in his career, with plenty more to come over the next year or two.
Following his history making goal, many NHLers, celebrities and other athletes paid tribute to The Great 8, sending in videos to give him the praise that he deserves after an incredible career.
When Russian teammate and good friend Evgeni Malkin was asked about the record however, he had a much more different take than everyone else, and it's one we've seen on social media plenty in recent times.
He's not a typical hockey player. He doesn't work out every day. He doesn't eat healthy. He's just a hockey player.
From other sources, that could be seen as an insult, but from Malkin, a good friend, it's simply the truth, as Ovechkin has never been the fittest player on the ice, but he always knows how to get his spot and beat the goaltender.
With his latest goal going past another Russian in
Ilya Sorokin, it marks 183 goaltenders that he's scored on in his illustrious career, showing that while Ovi has had great longevity, he's also been incredibly consistent, having success against anyone he goes up against.
While it's certainly not recommended to approach hockey like Ovechkin has over the past two decades, it goes to show that there are many ways to go about achieving success at the professional level, as he is set to extend his lead well beyond Wayne Gretzky in the coming years.
