Florida Panthers Prospect Linked to Penguins in Possible Evgeni Malkin Trade Talks

This off-season has been full of speculation around Pittsburgh, and while most are focusing on the trade potential of Erik Karlsson, Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell, veteran star Evgeni Malkin hasn't shut down the idea of being traded yet.

With his contract up at the end of the 2025/26 season, Malkin's future is very uncertain at this point in time, and if the Penguins struggle early, there's a chance that the team could trade their franchise icon.

One team that could be interested in Malkin is the Florida Panthers, who just lost captain Aleksander Barkov for the season, and with Malkin filling a hole for them, this is a deal that could make sense.

Now, it's been revealed which intriguing piece the team could get back for No. 71, with reports stating that 22-year old winger Mackie Samsokevich could be the name that Kyle Dubas targets in a trade with their veteran star, as well as a solid draft pick or two.

At this point in his career, the Penguins likely aren't going to get a haul for Malkin, who put up just 50 points in 68 games played last season, and at 39-years of age, it makes sense for them to move on now that they likely aren't going to be competitive.

Ultimately, if Dubas could get a solid piece like Samsokevich in return for their veteran star that may walk at the end of the 2025/26 campaign anyway, it would be a very tidy piece of business for the Penguins General Manager.
