A former fourth overall pick emerged as a likely trade target for the Pittsburgh Penguins President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas.

Many changes are expected to go down in the offseason for the Pittsburgh Penguins. After firing their head coach Mike Sullivan, the team will look to replace him and surround the new coach with new acquisitions to get to the start of the next season on a high note.
With all the draft picks acquired by Dubas in the season, the team is in a great position to make a few trades to get reinforcements for the next season.
According to a new report, the Penguins should go after defenseman Bowen Byram on the trade market.
However, after yet another disappointing season, the Buffalo Sabres could be interested in keeping him.
Byram is a talented player who could be a part of the solution for the Sabres. The player also seems committed to Buffalo, meaning that Dubas would likely need to pay a hefty price to acquire him.
But there's no doubt that he could help the Penguins reach the next level.
The 23-year-old defenseman's comments during his end-of-season media availability showed that while he wants to remain in Buffalo, he's a fierce competitor and could bring a lot to the Penguins' locker room:
"First off, first thought's always disappointment. I look at our team and I do think that we should be playing the next few days in a playoff series. But that's on us as players. Yeah, it sucks, but all in all I enjoyed my year.

We have a great group of guys in the dressing room, we all get along, and we're all trying to figure this thing out together. It's tough. It's never fun losing and whatever. But I know that everyone's committed to trying to figure this out and that's what we're going to try and do."

"We have a great crew of guys in the locker room and a lot of great players. It's tough when things don't work out in terms of success for the team. We'll regroup and come back next season ready to go. And in terms of my contract,

I think I'll talk to my camp and talk to Kevyn and we'll figure out what the next step is. I'm excited for that process. Kevyn's great to work with and very communicative of what he wants and what he thinks is best for myself and the team."

Byram will be a restricted free agent on July 1st. If Dubas doesn't get him, it wouldn't be surprising to see another organization make him an offer sheet.
