Pittsburgh Penguins eyes on Vladislav Kolyachonok as Boston Bruins waivers news hits and Jack Studnicka clears.
The Bruins put Kolyachonok on waivers Tuesday for assignment to Providence, and that name should ring a bell in Pittsburgh.
He is a former Penguin, and the timing is spicy because the Pens have watched their blue line depth get tested all season.
Boston's release is pretty direct, Vladislav Kolyachonok is on waivers for the purpose of going to the AHL.
Kolyachonok is 24, a left shot, and Florida drafted him in 2019 round 2 at 52nd overall.
He has played 13 NHL games this season between Boston and Dallas, with 1 goal, 2 assists, and 3 points.
The fun Penguins angle is the paper trail, Pittsburgh claimed him on waivers in February 2025, then moved him to Dallas in July 2025.
So you are looking at a defenseman the organization already evaluated up close, systems and all.
Alexander Kolyachonok waivers ping Pittsburgh Penguins fans
Honestly, Penguins fans are tired of «depth talk» until a name they know pops back up like this.
Kolyachonok's best case in Pittsburgh is simple, steady third pair minutes, quick outs, and not getting caved in when the top guys need a breather.
Last season he put up 2 goals and 7 points in 35 games split between Pittsburgh and Utah, while averaging 13:01 of ice time.
That is not top-four production, but it is playable when you need a calm lefty who can survive the middle of the ice.
If he clears, Providence gets a solid pro, and Boston keeps the option ready if injuries hit again.
If he gets claimed, it is a no-drama bet for a team that wants a cheap audition between the pipes of the roster, not the net.
The same X clip also says Jack Studnicka cleared after Florida put him on waivers Monday, so that is one more depth name sliding back to the AHL.
For Penguins fans, this one is all about Kolyachonok and whether Kyle Dubas wants a familiar fallback before the next stretch of games.
