Former Pittsburgh Head Coach Mike Sullivan Sends a New Message to Penguins Fans
Mike Sullivan departed Pittsburgh after a decade as Head Coach, and now, he's sent a heartfelt message to Penguins fans after his departure, thanking them for their support over the past decade in Pittsburgh.
Back in 2015/16, the Pittsburgh Penguins hired Mike Sullivan as their new coach, and over the following decade, he would take the Penguins to the post-season seven times, leading
Sidney Crosby,
Evgeni Malkin and this organization to two Stanley Cup's in that time.
However, after missing their third straight post-season appearance in 2025, the team decided to move on from him this summer, with the franchise looking towards the future as they seemingly prepare to hire 40-year old Mitch Love as his replacement.
Weeks after his departure, Sullivan has reached out to Penguins fans in a unique way this week, as a billboard has appeared in Pittsburgh bearing a very simple and heartfelt message from Sullivan.
Thank you Pittsburgh.
Cup Family is forever.
This is something that Sullivan certainly didn't need to do, but given the connection he had with the city of Pittsburgh and the people that supported him for the past decade, it was a classy touch from the veteran Head Coach, who came to be one of the most respected coaches in the NHL during his tenure in Pittsburgh.
Now however, he's a division rival after being hired by the New York Rangers, and while it's likely all love between the team, the front office and Sullivan, even though he remains in the Metropolitan Division as a rival, but this simple act from the veteran has shown just how much love he'll always have for the city and the organization.
