The hockey world is stunned to learn about the passing of former Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero at the age of 62.

A stunning passing has the hockey world in mourning today, as former Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero has died at the age of 52.
Shero, who was serving as senior advisor to the Minnesota Wild, had previously also served as the GM for the New Jersey Devils.
Shero was the GM for the Penguins when they made back to back runs to the Stanley Cup Final in 2008 and 2009, the latter of which resulted in the franchise's 1st championship since the days of Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr in 1992.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman released the following statement of condolences and remembrance:
«Whenever we ran into each other at a rink when he was scouting, it was clear he loved what he was doing and I always marveled at his infectious enthusiasm. The entire National Hockey League family mourns his passing and sends our deepest condolences to the Shero family and Ray's many friends throughout the hockey world.»
Multiple NHL teams released statements of sympathy in the wake of Shero's passing, including the Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators.
He was the assistant general manager of the Senators from 1993 to 1998, and was also assistant general manager of the Predators from 1998 to 2006.
Shero also worked on the international stage as part of the 2017 and 2018 United States Men's National Team Advisory Group.
During his time in New Jersey, he was responsible for bringing in the likes of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and Jesper Bratt.
