Former New York Rangers forward Vitali Kravtsov, who was taken with the 9th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, could be available to the Penguins and GM Kyle Dubas.

The Pittsburgh Penguins don't appear to be in any position to be contenders any time soon for the Stanley Cup, much less a spot in the postseason. But GM Kyle Dubas could potentially have the chance to add more depth to the roster with a former 1st round pick of the New York Rangers.
Per Thomas Drance of The Athletic, Vitali Kravtsov could potentially be placed on waivers by the Vancouver Canucks and has a high likelihood of being claimed.
Kravtsov will get a real opportunity to make Vancouver's NHL team out of training camp, but whether he's able to break camp in the NHL, he'll be an option to remain with the organization throughout the season.

That said, there was a fair bit of interest in Kravtsov expressed by rival teams around the NHL before the Canucks signed him. Internally, the club seems to believe there's enough interest from other corners of the league that if he were to hit waivers ahead of the season, he'd be at high risk of being claimed.

He has played the last 2 years with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL, but his rights were still retained by the Canucks; he also returned to sign a 1 year, 2-way contract with the team earlier in August.

Vitali Kravtsov May Come Available on Waivers: Penguins Could Give Him an Opportunity to Thrive

Kravtsov was taken with the 9th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Rangers, but was assigned to the AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack. He was also on loan with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL.
He signed multiple 1 year contracts with the Rangers before being traded to the Canucks for Will Lockwood and a 7th round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
He has 12 points (6G, 6A) in 64 NHL games.
