NHL insider Frank Seravalli provided a negative update regarding the Penguins' upcoming possible trades, stating that there doesn't appear to be any happening.

Several superstars are changing jerseys, with Mitch Marner heading to Vegas, and sellers like the Pittsburgh Penguins are all being closely watched this season as multiple moves are expected, or at least were.
As we head into more season-long trade rumors, we are going to have plenty of suspense as we near the deadline, especially if players have not been traded yet.
Where summer has not been all that exciting, spring is where this season could be hotter than it is now.
Pittsburgh is especially interesting because players like Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and Erik Karlsson have had trade rumors swirling, but nothing has happened.

Rust, Rakell, and Karlsson Likely Sticking Around in Pittsburgh.. For Now

NHL insider Frank Seravalli poured cold water on it all, saying he is not holding his breath that anything will materialize anytime soon. That may very well change later in the season if Pittsburgh falls out of the mix.
"People have been waiting all summer. (Bryan) Rust, (Rikard) Rakell, Erik Karlson. I'm not holding my breath. If I was, I would have turned blue already."

One narrative to watch is Evgeni Malkin. The aging center has one year left on his contract and, at age 39, is not really part of Pittsburgh's future anymore.
If they are to be a contender, he will ride out the season with Pittsburgh, but if not, his retirement tour could end with him getting traded to a playoff team as a rental, and the first teams on his wish list are reportedly the Rangers and Panthers.
Overall, much is at stake this season as far as drama is concerned, with key decisions ahead for both players and teams, so all eyes will be on GM Kyle Dubas as he navigates through it all.
