The Columbus Blue Jackets, the divisional foe of the Pittsburgh Penguins, made a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers for goaltender Ivan Fedotov.

There has been a trade in the NHL today that could carry implications for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as it was between 2 of their divisional foes.
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired goaltender Ivan Fedotov from the Philadelphia Flyers, who decided things just weren't working out with them and the towering Russian goalie.
The news was 1st reported by analyst Elliotte Friedman:
Some news today: Philadelphia will be trading Ivan Fedotov to Columbus

Blue Jackets have been looking to add a goalie, now they have another.
Fedotov was taken 188th overall by the Flyers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and made his debut in 2024 after several years of playing in the KHL. But he mostly struggled in his NHL appearances, and has gone 6-14-5 with a 3.29 GAA and .874 SV% in 29 total games.

The Penguins made a goalie trade of their own

The Penguins made a goaltending trade of their own, trading Alex Nedeljkovic to the San Jose Sharks, meaning that Tristan Jarry is once again the de facto starter in goal.
Nedeljkovic had been signed to a 2 year extension last summer, but he wasn't able to build on his strong play down the stretch last season and mostly struggled.
They also acquired Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks only weeks after he helped the Abbotsford Canucks to the Calder Cup.
Now, the competition in goal for the Penguins in training camp beginning this week will be with Jarry, Silovs, Joel Blomqvist, and Sergei Murashov.
