Former NHLPA Director Suddenly Passes Away at the Age of 72

Bob Goodenow, who was the former executive director of the National Hockey League Players Association, has passed away at 72 years old, multiple reports have confirmed.

One of the most visible and up front figures in the infamous 2005 NHL Lockout was Bob Goodenow, the former executive director of the NHLPA.
He unfortunately has passed away at 72 years of age, as 1st reported by analyst Frank Seravalli.

Goodenow was a fierce advocate for players over his tenure from 1992-2005.
Goodenow was a graduate of Harvard University in 1974 and of the University of Detroit Law School in 1979, and succeeded Alan Eagleson as the executive director of the NHLPA in 1992.
He oversaw a pair of NHL lockouts, first in 1994 that was resolved in January of 1995, and then the infamous 2004-05 Lockout that wiped out the entire season. He was later replaced by Ted Saskin.

NHLPA issues statement confirming Goodenow's passing

The NHLPA also confirmed Goodenow's passing and released a statement:
The modern NHLPA, and the work it has done to improve the quality of life for thousands of players past and present, is a direct result of the foundation that Bob Goodenow built. His impact on the game of hockey is lasting and profound.

We extend our deepest condolences to Bob's wife, Wendy, his children, Joe, Katharine and Kerry, and grandchildren, Kelsey, RL and Oona, as well as his family and friends. He will forever remain a vital part of the NHLPA family.

Goodenow is survived by his wife Wendy and 3 children.
