Following this morning's blockbuster deal that saw Tristan Jarry sent to Edmonton for Stuart Skinner, NHL insider Jason Mackey reveals how it all became possible.

The move that eventually made sense is now official. Penguins president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas made a trade sending Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, capitalizing on energy created by the 30-year-old goalie's successful start and pointing towards giving the keys to Sergei Murashov.
The trade brings to Pittsburgh goalie Stuart Skinner, defenseman Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round pick. That's an impressive package, considering how the season has kicked off.

What ultimately led to the Penguins trading Tristan Jarry to Edmonton

Jarry has clearly discovered renewed form due to better play in front of him, having bounced back from a series of appearances within the minors that took place last season, which is what likely led to the trade.
"Dubas was smart to pounce on that and take advantage of what appears to be a desperate team in Edmonton."

He offered consistent performances and outperformed Arturs Silovs. At 27, he has participated in 23 games so far this season and maintains a record of 11-8-4 with a 2.83 goals against average and a $2.75 million cap hit.

Why the Oilers desperately needed goalie help

Edmonton has struggled with goalie play, with Skinner and Calvin Pickard combining for an .873 save percentage, which ranks 31st.
Obviously, they have needed goalie help, and Dubas brought it to them with the trade of Jarry, who will again be reintroduced to the area of Canada he goes back and forth from for summer vacations, a region he took home a Memorial Cup with in 2014 with the Oil Kings of Edmonton.
Jarry steps into a team that has participated in two recent finals in the Stanley Cup, with very high hopes this season once again. There is a gap in the net in Edmonton that he will fill perfectly.
One scheduling oddity: Jarry and the Oilers will be back in Pittsburgh on Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena. Whether he plays in that game remains to be seen.
