Penguins place former 7th overall pick on waivers after blockbuster trade with Oilers
Shortly after the Penguins' blockbuster trade with the Oilers, the team decided to place defenseman and former 7th overall pick Matt Dumba on waivers.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will put veteran defenseman Matt Dumba on waivers Friday.

This move comes on the heels of Pittsburgh acquiring Brett Kulak as part of their trade package from the Edmonton Oilers for Tristan Jarry. The Penguins also got Stuart Skinner and a second-round pick in the deal.
Dumba, age 31, currently has one assist and three points in 11 appearances with the Penguins. His cap hit is $3.75 million, and he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Last year, he appeared in 63 games with Dallas. There, Dumba had one assist and 10 points. Dumba and a pick were sent to Pittsburgh in a trade involving Vladislav Kolyachonok.
Dumba, who was drafted seventh overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2012, has 85 goals and 261 points in 748 career NHL games.

Kulak, 31, has two assists in 31 games and is a pending UFA with a cap hit of $2.75 million.
The defenseman was traded from Montreal to Edmonton at the 2022 trade deadline and has been an integral part of the defensive core for the back-to-back Cup Finals appearances.
This signals a move that shows that Pittsburgh is working on cap and roster space considerations as it rebuilds its defense for the upcoming season.
