The Penguins have acquired Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner today in exchange for Tristan Jarry, in a blockbuster deal that also includes other pieces.

NHL insiders Elliotte Friedman and Pierre LeBrun revealed some important news today, as the Oilers acquired Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry, as well as Predators defenseman Spencer Stastney.
In return, the Penguins will be getting Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner to take over as the team's number one goalie.

What this trade will hopefully offer to Stuart Skinner

Rumors have been swirling for weeks, and it has finally come to be early this morning. This move will look to stabilize the Oilers' crease moving forward and give Skinner a fresh start in Pittsburgh to find his form once more.
Brett Kulak and a second-round draft pick will also be heading Pittsburgh's way as part of this deal. Sam Poulin will also be heading Edmonton's way.
This season, Jarry has a solid 9-3-1 record with a 2.66 goals-against and a .909 save percentage. In 307 career NHL appearances, Jarry has a 161-100-32 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
Turning our attention to Skinner, he has an 11-8-4 record this season with a .891 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average.

Why Stuart Skinner has quite the impressive resume

The 27-year-old has helped backstop the Oilers to two consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Final, but the team ultimately fell short against the Florida Panthers in each of the last two seasons.
Skinner is a pending unrestricted free agent, carrying a cap hit of $2.6 million on his expiring deal, so this move also gives the Penguins more financial flexibility.
Kulak, age 31, has two assists in 31 games this season. He is also a pending UFA, carrying a cap hit of $2.75 million this season, allowing even further flexibility to Pittsburgh.
Kulak was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens at the 2022 trade deadline, and he has been a key piece on the Oilers' blueline in each of their runs to the Stanley Cup Final over the past two years.
