Sidney Crosby's name has been in trade rumours for quite some time, and now he's opened up on his childhood team, adding more to the speculation around Montreal.
All off-season long, there has been continued speculation in the NHL over Sidney Crosby's future, and while he wants to remain loyal to the Pittsburgh Penguins, it's clear that they won't be competing for a Stanley Cup in the next few years.
Those next few seasons may be the final ones in the career of the iconic Penguins captain, and while he's shut down trade rumours to this point, in his latest comments for
The Athletic, it's clear he's warming to the idea of a potential trade.
Sidney Crosby Has a Deep Love for the City of Montreal, but is not 'Leaving Breadcrumbs'
One of the team's most linked to Crosby has been the Montreal Canadiens, a team that Crosby grew up supporting, and now he's opened up on the support he got while playing in Montreal.
"As someone who loves to play in environments like that - I grew up a Montreal Canadiens fan - to have an ovation like that here was really special and something I'll always remember."
This doesn't mean he's open to accepting a trade to Montreal as of yet, but expressing his admiration for the crowd and the supporters there will no doubt lead some to hoping for a trade.
On paper, there's no better fit for Crosby in a potential trade than Montreal, and while he's not guaranteed to be traded anytime soon, if he does officially request a trade, his childhood team will no doubt be one of the team's pursuing him most aggressively.
