Top Penguins Rookie Rutger McGroarty Doesn't Hold Back When Asked About Sidney Crosby
Rutger McGroarty is clearly full of respect for captain Sidney Crosby, and unsurprisingly, he heaped the praise on him on the Empty Netters podcast.
Last season was a wild ride for Rutger McGroarty, as the former top Winnipeg Jets prospect demanded a trade before being moved to Pittsburgh and ultimately making his NHL debut with the franchise.
All of that drama is now behind him, and heading into the 2025/26 campaign with Pittsburgh, McGroarty is likely to play alongside one of the games greatest ever players in Sidney Crosby.
McGroarty full of praise for the leadership of his captain
During a recent appearance on the Empty Netters podcast, McGroarty couldn't have been more complimentary of the Penguins iconic captain, opening up on how quickly he was made to feel comfortable by Sid after arriving in Pittsburgh.
"Yeah, I mean, obviously everybody knows what he's done for this game and the great person that he is. I think the coolest thing about Sid is that he could just be sitting here on this pod talking like a normal guy. He's just such a genuine, great human being. And I think when I got up and I saw that I was playing with him, like, first practice, he made me feel so comfortable and feel great in that environment."
That is one thing that fans have heard about for quite some time when it comes to 87, and it's clear that the way he leads this team has resulted in plenty of success for the Penguins, and with more young guys like McGroarty expected to arrive soon, it will be a big help establishing the future of the team.
