Marc-Andre Fleury is set to play his final NHL game with the Penguins, and now he's revealed that it's going to be a very emotional night for the 40-year old.
Last week, the Pittsburgh Penguins shockingly signed Marc-Andre Fleury to a PTO, and while it's not a full-time return, it will allow the former No. 1 overall pick an opportunity to retire with the team he's most synonymous with in the National Hockey League.
Unsurprisingly,
ticket prices for the game are skyrocketing, with so many Penguins and neutral fans wanting to take this opportunity to bid farewell to one of the great characters of the game, and one of the best goaltenders of this modern era.
An emotional night for the Penguins icon
Obviously, this is going to be an emotional night for not just Fleury and his family, but for former teammates and fans as well, with the 40-year old net minder recently addressing how he's going to emotionally handle things.
Yeah, I'll probably get emotional. I expect it to happen just going back into the dressing room and seeing my locker again. I'll have the same routine that I had back in the day with the Penguins. I'll still want to play well though; I don't want to look like a fool out there. But at the same time, the fans know I'm retired now.
In his
interview with NHL.com, Fleury opened up on how all of this came to be, and it appears he's well aware just how emotional it's going to be for every person in the building on that night.
Reportedly, Fleury's entire family will make the trip from Montreal to see the Penguins fans bid him farewell, and after an iconic career, you can bet that the organization want to send him off in the right way.
