The Pittsburgh Penguins are targeting their next franchise altering star, and now Josh Yohe has noted the moves they need to make in order for it to happen.
That's much easier said than done, but with the likes of Gavin McKenna and Landon DuPont coming in the draft and some loaded free agency classes, there's many opportunities for them to potentially build for another successful era in the latter stages of Crosby's career.
According to Josh Yohe, there are three ways for the Penguins to make this happen, and as of right now, they have begun the rebuilding process that could see them use any of those possibilities to make it happen.
What the Penguins need is star power. The three best ways to acquire star power are:
-Using first-round draft picks -Landing top prospects -Having an enormous amount of salary cap space
Unsurprisingly, Yohe urges GM Kyle Dubas to trade both Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust, as that not only clears salary cap space, but gives the team more swings at a superstar in the draft, and with the next few drafts seen as some of the most loaded in recent memory, it makes the most sense.
With the likes of Rutger McGroarty, Ville Koivunen and some of their current prospects, the team have begun building a very bright future, but until the Penguins use one of those processes to land a big time star, Penguins fans will be very wary about the potential of the current organization as it stands.
