Kyle Dubas is trying to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins into a quick rebuild, but now he's admitted there's factors that the team have no control over.
The Pittsburgh Penguins current roster is in rough shape, and without elite talent to lead them forward and stars of the future, their philosophy and direction has come into question.
For the most part, the expectation is for this organization to push towards a rebuild, but with
Sidney Crosby and
Evgeni Malkin still on the team, that may be hard to sell to a roster full of veterans.
Kyle Dubas Focused on Returning the Penguins to Contention, Despite Difficult Trade Market
It appears as though Dubas is following through with a rebuild, and in his latest comments to
The Athletic, he admits that can be very hard given that the team has no control in some areas.
"We have no control over speculation or the desires of other teams, markets or members of the media. Our focus is on returning the Pittsburgh Penguins to perennial contender status as urgently as possible."
While it's true that no organization can control what fans think or what other teams will do, Dubas makes it clear that he's pushing to get this team back to contention as soon as he possibly can, but with the team also having to keep the future in mind, that is a lot easier said than done.
Only time will tell whether or not Dubas can build this team back up while also collecting assets and young players for the future, but for now he's made his direction clear, and that's going to impact how they approach the trade market moving forward in a big, big way.
